Mieshelle Nagelschneider
Nominated for Pet Sitter of the Year 2003,
Pet Sitters International
Exciting
News!! Mieshelle has just recently signed contracts with
producers seeking to create
a companion
show to "The Dog Whisperer"!
It's exciting to think the most popular pet in America (the
cat!) will finally have a show on T.V. to better educate owners
on the cat and its behaviors.
Mieshelle
Nagelschneider is a nationally known veterinarian-referred
cat behaviorist who has consulted with cat owners
across the United States to solve their cats' behavior
problems. She worked side-by-side with veterinarians for five
years, and has spent 18 years working professionally with cats
of all kinds -- from domestic cats to large exotics of the tiger
family. Her study of animal behavior was at
Harvard
University.
Mieshelle's expert
advice has been used in
Cat Fancy Magazine,
This Wild Life, Pet Magazine,
The Divine
Cat, and
The Daily Cat.
Custom cat sitting services include:
- Feeding and
watering to their schedules
- Playtime with your
cats (very important!)
- Grooming (if accustomed)
- Monthly nail
trimming in the comfort of your cat's own home
- Litter box maintenance (I'm a
perfectionist)
- Long-term home
care such as rotating lights and blinds, bringing in mail and
newspapers
- And my specialty,
care for high-level care cats with special needs, such as cats
with kidney issues, diabetic cats, geriatric cats, high-anxiety
cats, and cats with
behavior issues.

Mieshelle is a
popular resource for many "cat only" veterinary practices
nationwide, over 40 wild cat sanctuaries, and countless animal
shelters needing expert advice on feline behavior. Locally, she
is one of the referred Feline Behavior Consultants for Animal
Aid and The Cat Adoption Team of Oregon,
a 350-cat no-kill shelter, and has long been a featured
behavioral resource on The Oregon Humane Society's
website. With her in-depth knowledge and understanding of the
cat psyche and background in animal psychology, has helped her
to better educate the cat owner and, most importantly, to help
your cat!
She has also been
asked to be an expert witness on cat behavior in
court cases involving damages caused by felines. She is
currently working with producers on a cat behavior show for one
of television's major cable networks!
Mieshelle started
her career 20 years ago as a veterinary technician and then a
psychology major. Says Mieshelle, "I have been caring for
animals since I began to walk -- dogs, cats, horses, birds --
and have cared for them professionally since 1989, when I began
to study for my Veterinary Certification Exam. A few years ago,
I realized cat owners are under-served and began to focus my new
client development exclusively on
cat care -- which sometimes means care of their owners
too."
I have been cat sitting professionally for 17 years and am known in the Portland area for developing personal
relationships with my clients' cats. I know their names,
their personalities, their preferences and idiosyncrasies (the
owner's too), and
I'm able to care for them far better because I know them as
individuals.
Referred by the
Oregon Veterinary Specialty Referral Clinic, The Oregon Humane
Society (see testimonials) and dozens of vets
throughout Portland and its suburbs, I provide cat
sitting for Portland, Oregon and its southern suburbs for all breeds, domestic and nearly wild, including feeding
and care for special needs cats and their delicate schedules and
medical needs.
In addition to 18 years of professional cat sitting, I offer your cat the benefits of care
from a feline behavioral standpoint as I'm also a vet referred
feline behaviorist and one of the referred behaviorists for The
Cat Adoption Team of Oregon. Also, as an experienced vet assistant and
Advanced Accredited Pet-Sitting Technician I know the the
signs of illness and when it's time to seek veterinary help.
One of my favorite things about cat sitting is when clients have
commented on how I am the only pet care specialist their cat
seems to like or when their cat lets no one pet him except for
me. I love the reaction from the client when they are
about to faint when their cat rubs up against me when no one
else could even come close or when their cat has hid under the
bed for 15 years and has only come out for me or the owner.
I have been asked what my secret is and will let you know when I
find out!
